About me

Biography
My name is Gysbert Savelkouls. After more than 30 years in IT sales and business development, I am now enjoying my retirement and have been devoting myself fully to my passion for about three years - abstract expressionist painting.

Born in Oberhausen in the Ruhr area and growing up in this dynamic region, I have experienced many facets of life. Stages in my biography - from life on the Lower Rhine to almost two years in Spain - have had a lasting impact on my view of art, colors and structures.

My artistic path
Inspired by Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter and Hans Hartung, I am constantly searching for new forms of expression in my work. My style moves between minimalist structure, experimental color dynamics and gestural painting, often characterized by a reduced color palette or expressive contrasts.

My art
My paintings are often created spontaneously, out of the moment - an intuitive, experimental process in which new dimensions emerge layer by layer. I use acrylic paints, pigments and mixed media techniques on canvas, wood or paper. Structure, depth and contrasts are the focus of my works, which encourage the viewer to reflect and leave room for their own interpretations.
